This lovely fawn was born in my backyard Memorial Day Weekend! The Mom left her and I took photos of the beautiful baby camoflaged in the leaves. This piece was made from one of her photos and graced the cover of my postcard for my July show in Chapel Hill, NC.
Custom framed with museum glass.
In shamanism, the deer is the symbol of gentleness, unconditional love and kindness. Deer are in tune with nature, exerting keen observation and sensitivity. Fawn's are born a color that protects them, camouflaging them from predators. This fawn was so camouflaged that I could barely make her out. I painted her edges more clearly than the surrounding foilage and puchsed the color in the leaves for interest. I also deliberately put her body on a diagonal and repeated colors for a stronger composition. I blended most of the edges where I could, to communicate softness and kept the size small to emphasize the intimacy of this innocent encounter.
