The Commission Process
The initial communication will establish whether I'll be using your photo or need photography, the size of the portrait, the medium, whether it will be a head, 3/4 or full body portrait and the type of background desired. Once this is established, a 1/3 non-refundable deposit secures the portrait process in my work schedule, and an approximate due date is given. This can vary according to the complexity of the piece and my schedule. I do my best to meet your birthday or gift deadlines given enough time.

Photography
If possible, I prefer to take my own resource photos, otherwise please send the best photos possible that you have of your pet or person. (See photo tips section of website)
Any background information about the personality of the subject helps me understand how to set up a composition and mood.
(This goes for Pets too!)
Sometimes several photos are used, as well as sketches. Any notes on truest coloring, expression and your favorite photos are helpful. All your photo references are returned with the completed portrait.
Pastels and Paper
The finest professional, archival quality, pure pigment pastels are used for all my pastel portraits, as well as archival papers. I currently use Wallis or Colorfix Art Spectrum papers for my pastel work.
Oils and Acrylics
Artist quality oils and acrylics are always used on archival canvases.
Framing
Portrait costs do not include frames. Pastels can now be beautifully framed with or without mats. If you are local, I can get a 10% discount for my clients at the Frame Warehouse in Cary, NC, who do beautiful custom professional work.
